Finland Quiz

Tällänen juttu meiltä vaihtareilta tilattiin, ja Suomi-visanhan ne saavat. Tätä väänsin eilen 5,5tuntia, ja pari kysymystä jäi vielä puuttumaan. Ehdotuksia otetaan vastaan, 20 kysymystä pitäisi saada rutistettua. Haluavat lisätä Suomi-tietoutta opiskelijoiden keskuudessa. Hieno homma! Toivottavasti ei ole mennyt ihan asian vierestä koko juttu. Vastaukset kysymyksiin on myös aika kattavia, että tulee sitten ihan tyhjentäviä vastauksia, ja perusteista on lähdettävä liikkeelle, esim neljä vuoden aikaa ja eläimistö (luulevat tosiaan että Suomessa on pigviineitä ja jääkarhuja) voi tuota epätietoisuuden määrää... Ja korjata saa jos tuntuu että syötän taas ihmisille pajunköyttä :)

1. Ms. Tarja Halonen is the president of Finland. She is the first female president in Finland and second in Nordic Countries. First female president in the world was Vigdís Finnbogadóttir in Iceland. She was chosen through democratic election and ruled the country for 16 years.

2. 180 000. Finland is known of thousands of lakes. Nearly 10% of countrys surface area is lakes.

3. Over 5 million. Even though Finland is quite big there is only 5 million people living there. 54% of Finlands population lives in southern part of Finland. Finland is known for it´s peaceful nature and silence.

4. Swedish and Finnish. Because of Finnish history, Sweadish has become the other official language. Most of the people speaks Finnish (92%), but in the western parts of Finland that is closest to Sweden, there are people that still speaks Swedish (5,5%) as their first language. All the other Finnish people learn Swedish in school where it´s considered compulsory.

7. Reindeers and seals. Reindeer is very common in northern part of Finland. You can see them walking around when your driving in Lapland. Reindeer is also very famous Finnish delicacy. Seals lives in the famous lake in Saimaa. Seals living in that lake are also called the seal of Saimaa and it´s a different species than the seal that lives in the sea. Seal is considered as endangered species.


8. Winter, spring, summer and fall. Finland is known for its four seasons. Winter time is from december –february. That time Finland is covered with snow and temperature can be from +5 – minus 30 degrees. In Lapland (northern Finland) winter is much colder than in southern Finland.
Spring months are from march till may. Days are getting longer and sun is shining longer than in winter. Snow is melting away and at the end of the spring flowers and trees starts to bloom. Summer is from june till august. School is off all summer and people are having their holidays. People travel all around the country and go to their summer cottages to relax. In the north sun dosn´t go down at all and days are long. 24.6. Finnish people are celebrating the midnight festival and bondfires are made and people gather together with families and friends. Summer time temperatures varies from +10 to +29 degrees. Finnish summer is full of barbeque, sauna, swimming in lakes and moskitos.
After warm summer comes fall. Leaves fall of from the trees and it gets colder and darker. Fall is from September to November. It´s the darkest time of the year. Lot of people likes to go to Lapland to see foliage (in Finnish ruska). Ruska is the time when the leaves in the trees are loosing their green colour and turns to red, brown, yellow and orange before falling of.

Sauna is something that Finnish people just love. Almost every home has its own sauna and it´s warm several times a week. Sauna is part of Finnish traditional parties like midsummer festivals and christmas. That times it´s common to get a birch-switch that you use in sauna. People slap themselves with the birch-switch. The meaning in that is to improve blood circulation. It also brings a nice fresh smell in to the sauna.
